Please help...
I am trying to get an old 80486DX2 66Mhz 249Mb disk, 12Mb internal memory,
hooked up to my network, using an old NE2000/T/Cplus NIC with a UM9008F
chipset.
I am well aware of the ancienity of the slackware release and the kernel
that I'm using, and I promise to upgrade when I'm hooked up, so please help
me with this problem first...
I Googled around and found a DOS

utility to be able to diagnose and
configure this thing, and set the nic to io=0x300, irq=11.
In slackware (version 3.5.0, kernel 2.0.34) I adapted the
/etc/rc.d/rc.modules file to reflect this by uncommenting the line:
/sbin/modprobe ne io=0x300 # NE2000 at 0x300
(which i tried myself also).
Alas, no result. The response is:
<response>
loading device 'eth0'...
ne.c: No NE*000 card found at i/o = 0x300
/lib/modules/2.0.34/net/ne.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
</response>
I started out with 'ne', because this card is said to be NE2000 compatible.
I (first) tried all other drivers on this slackware installation, but no
results.
