Hello;
I have a problem with internet speed. It was really slow. 281 down and 520 up.
Weird! I have an Asus A7V8X motherboard with built-in nic BMC4401. I run
Slackware 10.1 and other Linux s in other partitions. I have 256 megs ram
1600Mhz cpu, 80 gig HD, D-Link adsl modem, and SMC 7004VBR router.
I was checking my speed with several speed check sites as I was fining I was
getting slow results browsing. I have a couple of other computers here running
Slack 10.1 as well so I tried one of them and found the tests showed:
1590 down and 540 up. So I went back to the slow machine and set it up the same
as the fast computer. No dice still slow. I then bypassed the router and found
the speed on the slow machine up to par with the other one. 1500 down and 500 or
so up.
What the heck? As a last resort; I added another nic and tried that out.
Now we have the slow machine running at the same speed as the other computers.
Do you think my router has a problem or is it the BMC4401? I would like to hear
what you think before I go out and buy another router.
Thanks for any input.
