Skys "capped" rates

In case anyone's interested, I spoke to Sky and they "claim" that if you are
capped and you go over you will not be charged instantly, instead they
contact you when they feel that an upgrade to unlimited will be suitable,
not only that but the guy said you would have to be consistently going quite
high above your cap.

I know it's all talk at the moment, was wondering if anyones experience is
different from the above?

It would be nice to get the chance, what with the reboots everyday now
so all the connections have to be renegotiated every time, that's if
the blasted thing logs in automatically. Sometimes it doesn't so the
link will can go down at say 01:35 & as I go straight out to work in
the morning I won't notice until 16:50, so that most of day wasted
because the darn thing needs a reboot to force a reconnection.

If it falls over in the morning & reconnects (yaaaah) it will stop
working in the afternoon as the SNR drops, requiring a reboot etc etc
etc..

Sky are the only company I know who have little if any regard for
their circuits stability, their circuits will always reconnect/resync
at the fastest possible speed for that moment in time it resyncs & if
you want it to be stable you have to experiment to find at which time
your SNR is worse & then resync at that moment, like I've just had to
do because the SNR had dipped to nearly 5 & all traffic had stopped, I
recon 1 more time tonight, in an hours or so time, should get me down
to something fairly stable, that's if it doesn't drop out tomorrow for
any other reason..

I didn't pay too much attention at the time because I'm still on the
connect package but I did flick through some stuff on skyuser about
this. Isn't mognuts' utility applicable?

Increase the SNR threshold on the router - I put mine to 9db and it's
much better. A bit slower but stable, which is what I wanted.

How do you increase the SNR threshold on the Router?

Install this fantastic little app, it monitors your connection and if it
fails the utility will automatically reboot your router. You can also
set your SNR for the re-boot to be higher so you get a more stable
connection. I couldn't be without it now, give it a shot:

Thanks for that little nugget, pity I hadn't found about it months ago
