i have a laptop with a wireless network card running windows xp and im trying
to connect to a netgear router ; the computer finds the router but does not
connect to the internet . it says aquiring network address but never finds it
..can anyone please help im a mature novice.

There can be a variety of causes for this behavior.

When you see the network on "Choose a wireless network" does it indicate
that it is a "security enhanced wireless network"? If so, you need the
proper encryption key.

There are other security measures that may be in place as well; are you
trying to connect to your own router or to someone else's network?

with the sky netgear modem wireless router
you will find the WEP security key that you need on a stick
stuck on the router somewhere and you should have had another
sticker with it on also.
These sky routers come with WEP key ready programmed in so
unless you enter it when your wireless laptop finds the router you cannot
connect.
