Sky: slow WiFi

Can anyone help me with the Sky/Netgear router?

I'm on the Sky 16Mb product and when connected by ethernet I get 10000 -
12000Kbps according to the speed test on DSLZone. Lovely!

However, if I'm connected on the WiFi I only get 3500Kbps which is
annoying. It is the same story for both my own and my company's laptop.

The router has .11g switched on, and the laptops report being connected
at 54Mbps. The speed is the same regardless of whether I'm sat right
next to the router or at the other side of the house.

I thought there might be some conflict with the Virgin WiFi router (my
Virgin cable is still active until the 16th), so I switched the WiFi off
in it's settings but it made no difference.

The settings on both laptops have not been changed from when I used them
on Virgin, other than to switch to the new router. When using Virgin
they worked at full speed.

Before I started to piss about with the settings in ignorance, I thought
it best to consult first. So: any ideas what the problem could be? Or is
the router just a bag of wank for wifi (I hope not...)

Have you got the WiFi on the laptop set to high performance or to low power?
Mines on high performance and I get 15 Mbits/sec downloading stuff.

I had it set to default which in theory should be 'high performance'
when on the power supply and 'battery saver' when on the battery.

I've just tried setting it to 'High' and it has made no difference to
the performance.
