Sky - restricted email?

Do Sky broadband place any sort of restrictions on email, i.e. hijacking
ports etc?

I use a 3rd party for my email, and prefer to use their servers as
opposed to my connectivity ISP.

Well that's what I have to do as the blinking Enails servers are more down
than up..

Yep still getting the old
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.sky.com', Server:
'pop.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

& when you raise it with SKYNET they blame your email program & then say
they don,t support it.

Still what can you expect from a bargain basement priced service...

Their service, as far as I know, is completely open, I have seen no port
restriction or throttling in any way.

Easily the fastest, most reliable and cheapest broadband i have ever had.

I have never had an error with the sky pop servers using outlook 2003.
Are you sure it isn't your end?

I totally agree, Sky Broadband is a superb all round service - and the vast
majority of users from what I have read on newsgroups also agree (stop
knocking it kraftee, you are definitely in the minority)

Well I did have a red herring about Nortons 2007 as when I tried using a
machine without it I could get in.....for about a week but then the problem
just returned again with little if anything changed at this end. So I'm
fairly sure that the problem isn't my end, but even if it was it doesn't
excuse the total non support supplied by SKYNET, but, as I have said before,
what can one expect for bargain basement price...

You aught to go to the forums & see how many others are knocking it (as you
say) & I'm still hearing 'horror stories' on my patch where people are still
wihtout service 3-4 months after the local exchange was sorted out.

Just because it worked out of the tin for you doesn't mean you are the
majority, most of SKYNETs users wouldn't even know what a newsgroup was even
if it got up & bit them. Now forums... for some reason that is a
completely different matter...
