Hi everyone,

My current ISP is Sky. I also use BT Yahoo to collect e-mails (the
basic deal of £1.50 / month).

I have 2 questions;

1) Is it possible to view newsgroups via Sky?

2) Does the basic deal I have with BT preclude me from viewing
newsgroups? I get to the password stage and this is rejected.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, but afaik Sky don't provide access directly themselves. Are you
looking for binary groups or text only ?

I'm with individual.net (~10 euro per year) for plain text access, but
other options are readily available, such as...

http://www.easynews.com
http://usenet-news.net/index1.php?url=get
http://www.news.astraweb.com/plans.html
http://www.usenet-access.com
http://www.motzarella.org <--- free

Do BT say they offer newsgroup access for the £1.50 a month ? - if so,
I think i'd be directing the question at them why you can't log in...

It may actually be cheaper for you to buy your own domain, and set up
a "catch all" redirect - any mail sent to that domain will be
forwarded to any other account you want (such as Sky) - that would
also let you do things like "naming" particular email addresses so you
can tell if it's legit a bit more easily, such as paypal@ or yourbank@

http://www.123-reg.co.uk charge about £6.59 for a domain for two
years, and the catch-all redirect is thrown in as part of it if you
want it. There was talk about them removing this option, but as far as
I know it's still there.

Your ISP is SKY so BT will not allow you to use their news server. You must
be mad paying £1-50 per month when you can use gmail and others for free for
email.
As far as I know, SKY don't support newsgroups, but google for "free news
servers" and it will provide you with everything you need.

And Yahoo (non-BT) email is free.
