Hi all. just a quickie, I'm currenly using the netgear modem supplied by sky
and would like to connect a belkin 7130 Access Point to extend my wireless
range downstairs, but I cant get it to work. I also have a belkin modem
router 7633uk which I used prior to sky. Now I know that I'm not supposed to
use any other modem to connect to sky, so help would be appreciated in this
matter on how to configure both units.

Many Thanks
John

Turn off DHCP on the belkin, plug the belkin into one of the LAN ports
on the router.

If you read the Belkin 7130 manual, on page 12 it says: "You can only
extend your range with your 802.11g Wireless Router (F5D7230-4) and a
Belkin 802.11g WRE/AP (F5D7130) . Range extension with access points
of other manufacturers is not supported at this time."

This would lead you to assume that the converse *may* be true, i.e
that you could use a non Belkin router with a Belkin 7130 access
point. However if you look at the 7130 shipping packaging, there you
will see on the back of the box that in range extension mode it says
that you *must* have an existing Belkin 802.11g router.

I have tried to do what you are doing and failed. Belkin tech support
confirmed that range extension of a Netgear DG834G with a 7130 *was*
not possible (at the time I tried some 18 months ago). Whether it is
possible now only Belkin can tell you. Try asking on their support
section of their web site.

You could use your existing Belkin Router with Sky. I am sure someone
will be along to explain how to do that. Or you could improve
reception by the use of better aerial(s) on you PC(s). See Solwise
web site for goodies. I solved my problem with a high gain anntena,
placed on a ground plane (old biscuit tin lid !) with half metre
extension coax to the wireless LAN card in the under desk PC.

HTH

P.S. if anyone wants a F5D7130 going cheap my 'reply to address' is
valid.
