There are rumours that is going to launch a Picnic Broadband package
which would mean that people did not have to suscribe with thier TV
services. Due to be launched in November, but sky have not confirmed
this.

As if thier bandwidth from BT was not stressed enough at peak times
packet loss is as high as 60%

And will it turn out to be two sandwiches short of a picnic, I wonder?
;-)

ho hum.... my Sky BB flies; best speeds i've ever had from *any*
provider since I took up broadband several years ago, and a tenner a
month.

I'm rather happy at the present time.

I wonder where that will leave UKOnline, which Sky owns through Easynet.
I hope they don't get absorbed into Sky, I've found them to be pretty
good.

Funny that my present ADSL connection is faster & more stable than the
ADSL2 connection I got from SKY.

Which only goes to show that there as many differing experiences as
there are DSL users....

Out of interest, what sort of line stats have you got, and were you
definitely on ADSL2 as against ADSL ?

ISTR something about ADSL2 being more liable to variance / poor
throughput if you were "borderline" i.e. your stats were only just
good enough to go to ADSL2 - and that in some cases, staying on plain
ol' ADSL produced a more stable line.

Here here, 100% download speed 100% of the time i try, Sky BB is not just a
bit better then any other provider, but massively so, I have, to be a bit
cheeky, pushed their unlimited 'max' service, to see if I would flag up a
warning about excessive use, not a ditty... I am talking anywhere up to
200gb of download in a month....

I am sure it wont last, when half of the country are in sky BB.

Line stats have nothing to do with which ever service you are on
whether it be ADSL, ADSL2 or ADSL2+ they just affect the speeds you
get from which ever variant you are on.

How do I know I was on ADSL2. I was on the ISPs LLU DSLAM (which are,
allegedly, ADSL2) & was also why I was without service for 3 months as
their monkeys couldn't plug the cards in properly. All their non ADSL2
services are supplied via BT DSLAMs.

Mind you I did get an almost full refund when I cancelled after 9
months, which does go to show it pays to complain LOUDLY when the ISP
does drop the ball repeatedly, which that particular ISP did in my
case

That's why I *asked* if you were on ADSL2 - I didn't assume. I'm on
LLU but i'm only on an 8Mb profile as my line won't support ADSL2.

Yep. My 'switchover' came and went *exactly* as and when I was told it
would. The connection has dropped once since it was on (according to the
router logs) unlike AAISP which went down at least once a day.

Only thing i'm a bit miffed at, is having to use their router. I've
tried the username and password 'hack', obtained them, put them into
another router, but can't connect. Must be doing something wrong, but
would prefer to have a back up router rather then deal with Sky CS

I'm not as much as that, but I have downloaded a heck of a lot more than
I have done in the past, simply because I now can, at speeds which make
the whole experience much more pleasurable!

Maybe, maybe not.... but wasn't the whole ADSL 'thing' supposed to slow
down to dial-up speeds due to contention some while back when 512 was
your consumer max?

I would imagine that with BT rolling out NGN, things are going to
improve, at least, I hope they are.
