sk98lin version in FC4 kernel

Can someone tell me who's responsible for bundling the sk98lin driver
in the FC4 kernel? Does this happen at Fedora, or earlier in the kernel
release process?

The reason is I was unable to get the default sk98lin to recognize my
D-link DGE-530T adapters, but downloading and installing the latest
one from from syskonnect.com solved the problem. I noticed that the
version in the kernel was several revs behind what's available on
the syskonnect website.

I'd like to forward this info to whoever is responsible for integrating
sk98lin.

TIA

Fedora uses pretty recent kernel.org versions, so best idea would
be the maintainer/author of the module 'modinfo -a sk98lin' should
tell. Perhaps he just forgot to update the kernel.org version?
;-)

Good luck

This is unavoidable. It takes the code a while to filter through the
vetting process that gets it included in the kernel.

I've had similar problemw with this driver. Fortunately the
manufacturer's drivers fixed the problem.

[Unfortunately I'm now on their SPAM list, sigh.]

A little digging turned up the fact that sk98lin is being
replaced with the "skge" driver, which is also included in
the kernel and works just fine. However, the hardware setup
code still thinks sk98lin is the driver for this card and
loads it in preference to skge. I had to delete sk98lin.ko
and live with the bootup error message, but everything works
now 'out of the box'.

No you hadn't, you just have to point the line 'alias eth0
sk98lin' in /etc/modprobe.conf with 'alias eth0 skge' and run
'depmod -a'. Or whatever eth<n> it is.

Aha. That seems to work as well. Thanks!
