six PCs, two routers, one problem

I have six PCs (all on one workgroup, all sharing files), a cable modem, and
two routers.

A Linksys router, WRT54G, is connected to the cable modem.
It has DCHP turned ON.
It's local IP is 192.168.1.1

A linksys router, BEFSR81v3, is connected to the WRT54G; it's "internet"
port is connnected to a "regular" port on the WRT54G.
It has DCHP turned OFF.
It's local IP is 192.168.2.1

All PCs and both routers have a had an "ipconfig release and refresh".

Looking at the "DCHP clients" list on the control panel of the WRT54G, I can
see all the computers that are on both routers.

HOWEVER, from a given PC, when I look at the list of workgroup PCs, I can
only see those PCs that are connected to the directly-connected-to router,
not both. Also, the PCs on the BEFSR81 cannot see the internet. I want to
see all PCs from everywhere. What am I doing wrong here?

Replace the BEFSR81 with an Ethernet switch.

I had thought that if I turned DCHP off on the BEFSR81, that it would
function as a switch only. Is this not accurate?

Nope. It would just no conflisct with the other DHCP server.

Now I have a BEFSR81 v1 acting as a Router. I also have a BEFSR41 but it is "broken." You
can not get to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. Nor can it communicate using uPnP (TCP port
5000) and using Ethereal, it appears to be dead. However, it does just fine working as a
4-port Ethernet switch so I have that in another room and connected to the BEFSR81.

Two things I see :
- The BEFSR81v3 has a different LAN net, I'd change it to 192.168.1.2 (both
subnet 255.255.255.0)
- Some routers aren't by default enabled as switches, on one of them there
*might* be a config-option enabling it to be used as a router

Hope it helps
