Hi All,
I have just got a Dell 2350 Router. Does it need a modem between it and
the broadband phone line or does it plug straight in to the line, also, does
it need to be physically connected to a computer or can it be "free
standing"?

TIA

Ferret

a wireless "broadband router" - oh dear. Can you take it back ?

If not, you need an ethernet based modem that is compatible with it.
Linksys ADSL2MUE, DLink 300T, Westell 6000 series, ADSLnation X-modem
(out of stock ?). Note that comaptibility is not guaranteed as most
broadband routers want to use PPPoE and the UK is primarily PPPoA for
ADSL, so check carefully and ask around.

A computer may be required to set it up, after which it could be
wholly wireless.

So what was wrong with his reply ? seemed all right to me. If you mean the
bit about a pc, then you should read the op again carefully.

What's your problem?

As far as I can see, he was simply pointing out that a BB router designed
for use with cable won't work with ADSL without a separate modem with an
ethernet connection - and not necessarily, even then!

The OP would do well to ditch it and get a proper ADSL modem/router.
