My motherboard has a bulit in LAN and I'm about to use it with a router.
Obvious probably but I'm not sure, in the bios do I also need to enable the
Lan ROM also ?

No, the ROM is for PXE or Pre-eXecution Environment meaning booting without
a local boot drive straight from a network server.

I know it's OT but can you shed light as to how to go about using it?
I've been wondering about network boot ROMs for months and it sounds
very interesting to me!

Hi,

In the absence of other bootable media (hard disk, floppy and cdrom
etc) then it is possible to boot the PC over a network connection.
This doesn't work of course unless there is a suitable server on the
network configured to supply the boot configuration and image to the
PC.

One of the main uses is to remotely boot PCs on a corporate network
and remotely install an operating system (I think RIS on Windows 2000
server can do this)

Kris.

I'm interested too. I've used it but so far never actually setup the server.
I want to use it for a diskless media player in couple of rooms (preferably
EPIA based).
My findings so far:
