hi all, windows newbie here, seeking to start learning about windows networking
I've got two PCs one with W2K3s, another with XPhe, and a hardware firewall connected to a cable modem/line. The firewall has a four port integrated switch on its inside interface. I like to run printers off the W2K3 box for use by both machines. The firewall runs a dhcp server on its inside network and i'd like both machines to use dhcp clien
Give me a network design, how to configure it, and what services does W2K3 need to run for it to work?

The internet connects to the WAN side of the firewall/router. The four port switch connects all of the nodes (in this case the W2k3 box and XP box). You need to share the printer on the W2k3 box for the XP machine to be able to print from it. Make both nodes get their IPs through DHCP addressing, not static

First, you want to run servers with static IP's not as DHCP clients.
Second, XP Home makes a lousy workstation OS. Beyond that, install
the printer on your server, share the printer and on your workstation
add a network printer. Configure a domain and a user in W2K3 so you
can log in to use the printer resource, though you can't join XP Home
to a domain.
