It isn't possible to run Office 2000 on one computer when it's only
installed on the other computer. However, you can use the installed
version to open files that are stored on the other computer.
In general, you need to buy a license for each computer to install the
product on each computer. Some retail versions of Office (the ones
you buy at a store, not versions pre-installed by computer
manufacturers) allow you to install the product on one laptop and one
desktop computer. If that describes your setup, see the license that
came with the product for details.
