Am having a serious problem a the moment and its really annoying me.

I have a wireless modem/router that it just 4 feet from the wireless laptop,
but the signal keeps droping out.

Is this because as I read somewhere on this newsgroup that you need to set
the router to channel 1 to get maximum power?

I hadn't heard the channel 1 story. Have you got a DECT 'phone or a
Microwave close by (perhaps even your neighbours)?

If you're getting interference it's worth moving the channel up (or
down) by about three channels, to see if you can move away from the
interfering channel.

its lower frequency so a tad more range, also not used as default on
most kit. Best place to start until it becomes a fashion.

probably irrelevant, frequency of DECT is around 1.9 GHz whereas Wi-Fi
is 2.4 GHz.
