Sigal styrenth good - no cennectivity

We had to restore my daughter's hp zx5000 system. Now the wireless (Broadcom
802.1/g) doesnt seem to work. I have a netgear netmax router which is working
fine with 3 wired connections and my own wirles laptop. The wireless icon
shows the wirless network and a good signal but limited or no connectivity.
When I right click and select view availabe wireless networks it doesn't show
any (not even my network which the icon says it sees). I am stumped. I tried
updating the driver and that didn't work. Any ideas?

Do you have SSID enabled? Having this disabled can often cause this problem.
I would suggest that you temporarily set the netmax to an unsecure mode, No
encryption, no MAC filtering and see if you can connect.

David, The rangemax router is runningfine with every other computer (3 wired
and one wireless) My wireless picks up the SSID signal and connects with the
WEP key. I thought since her wireless shows the wireless connection icon in
the tray with the SSID name and says it has good signal strength but
limited or no connectivity that all I would have to do was view the available
wireless networks and correct the SSIDs advanced setting (correct WEP key
etc) if they were wrong and all would be solvede. But there are no available
wireless networks (SSIDs) shown even though the wireless icon show it???

It not clear what you are doing:

1) it's possible that you are just going to "view available wireless
networks" and expecting to find the networks listed there without doing a
search. Have you tried searching? If you can search, and after searching
nothing is shown that would indicate a hardware problem, or a failure to
load the correct drivers.

2) it's also possible that when you go to view available wireless networks
and try searching that you are told you can't search, indicating another
program other than the built in Windows program is controlling the card. In
which case you'll need to use that program to find the available networks

In both of your previous post you stated that "When I right click and select
view available wireless networks it doesn't show any (not even my network
which the icon says it sees)." and "But there are no available wireless
networks (SSIDs) shown even though the wireless icon show it???" My simple
instruction to click on Refresh network list, is a very simple test to
determine what is controlling your card. A blank list here often means some
other program is controlling the card, clicking on "refresh network list",
will generate an error message if windows is not controlling the card.

You've said you restored it, or rolled it back in time, have you also
updated all drivers and windows security patches?

Succes!! Thanks for your help on this! 871122 HAD REFERNCES TO 313242 &
815485 and all three together got me through the process of solving the
problem and connected wirelessly. Thanks for staying with me on solving the
