I have the SS1021 wireless PCMCIA card, and the desktop equivalent,
model escapes me at the moment.

Anyway, for a while the Wireless LAN Utility would show up in the
systray, but it hasn't for a couple of months, and I was wondering if
anyone knew why this has happened

I think if you clicked on the open area where the icon would be displayed,
the icon would appear.

Uninstall the software and reinstall it.

Nope. there is no "blank" area where it's supposed to be. I have done
the kill and restart thing several times, all to no avail

is the Utility running in the background? Do you see it in Task Manager? If
it's not running, just add a shortcut to it in your startup menu. If it is
running in the background, but the systray icon doesn't appear, try taking
it out of your startup menu and putting in a fresh link to the exe file.

You tried using MSConfig at the Command and telling it you want the
application to start upon system start-up, which hopefully will put the icon
in the systray? If it's not being done by MSConfig, it may not show in the
systray, no matter what.

Had the same problem when I originally intsalled my 2624WAP and 1021card.
The only way I got it back was a clean OS install on a spare hard drive.
But since your icon does not show up and you can't make adjustments without
it, try using different software. http://www.boingo.com/ has a free
download that does work. I did test it. Found it while monitoring this
group in another message. Had one other person contact me with the same
disappearing icon problem, he used it and reported that it worked.

I runWin2K w/SP4. Not sure it that may effect the icon disappearing, but
SP4 seems to have some issues, from the posts I saw on the Win2K update
group.

Good luck
