Shutdown of domain PC's

Looking for a way to shutdown a PC when a user logs off of our home
domain.

Scenario is one of my daughter's and often my wife just 'log off'
leaving the PC running unattended and still powered on.

I'd like to be able to run a script that either a) reminds them "do you
need to leave this PC switched on, or b) runs a shutdown command
regardless.

i've been unable to get the shutdown to work as it seems to need to be
run from a command prompt?

Any ideas?

The domain PC is running Windows Server 2000, and the 3 workstations we
have are all on XP Home or Professional.

How about a screensaver that shuts down when idle for (say)15m?

Also look at Sysinternals' psshutdown.exe, which actually works
(probably why ms bought them out..) and allows you to remotely shutdown a
domain client.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tec...s/default.aspx
but it is a command line util.

Lots, but only a couple relevant here... Group policy springs to mind,
you can set up a logoff message IIRC but you can also remove the logoff
button and give them only shutdown, restart and cancel if you so wish.
Careful with GPs though, very careful. It's easy to lock yourself out by
accident.

Thanks for idea. There is a nice little 'back-door' with GP involving
Task Scheduler and leaving hidden files open.... works a treat!
