Should it take more than 8 hours?? MN500

I've been trying to connect my MN500 for eight hours with no luck.

I currently have a LAN that connects thru Win 2K server w/proxy server
2.0. Clients are XP Pro, no firewall. Static IP of 192.168.0.x
Installed UPnP. This all runs from a cable modem.

Now, I unhook everything and reconnect the modem to the base unit. I
connect XP client to port 1 of base unit. I install software. Software
can't detect base unit. Network properties show an Internet Gateway,
but it is disabled. The enable menu is there, just doesn't do
anything.
I can log into the base unit by IP. I change the IP to 192.168.0.1.
I configure the WAN settings to statically match the IPconfig of the
now disconnected server. Disable firewall, enable ping.
Broadband utility says no internet. I reconfigure WAN to use DHCP, it
gets new IP, but still no internet. I configure XP client to get DHCP
from router, works, but still no internet. I connect other machines to
LAN side, including a wireless PC, and they all see each other, none
get to internet. Internet Gateway still disabled. Friend with same
base unit and XP says his gateway enabled and described as a MS
product.

I can release and renew the DHCP for the WAN, still no internet.
Reset to static and clone MAC of server, still no internet.

Removed UPnP and Internet Gateway Device Discovery client, no
Internet. Added them back one at a time, no internet.

Upgrade software and flash firmware....yup, no Internet. Uninstall
software, kick computer, reinstall software, no internet.

So the problem I see here is that the Internet Gateway (or base unit)
is not being detected properly. Hence, no Internet!!!

Anybody want to place bets on how far a person can throw a MN500? :-)

Or at least offer some friendly advice on why this might be happening?
Thanks!

Beaware that the base station works on a different subnet
192.168.2.x

You may want to change the static IP of one computer for
this subnet, then browse the router at 192.168.2.1 and
change the subnet on the router (actually you can even
configure/install it this way).

You might have missed the part about where I successfully logged into
the base station and changed it's IP to 192.168.0.1 to match my
existing network. But thanks for trying.

Anyone else?
