Short-term BB contract needed

A firend wants to get a Broadband account, but is planning to move to France
in about six months time.

She tells me that all the ISPs she has looked at so far require her to sign
up for 12 months (and this is true of my own ISP - Demon).

Can anyone suggest where she can get a short-term contact from?

A number of ISPs offer contracts of less than 6 months. I believe
Plusnet do a 1 month contract, provided everything is paid for up front.
Wouldn't recommend them these days although they may be OK for light
surfing but even e-mail has been unreliable for some while now. Zen
also do 1 month contracts. They are excellent but rather more expensive
than Plusnet

there was a recent thread about this

my son has signed up to NewNet - they offer a monthly contract at
GBP2/month more than their 12 month contract. There is also an
installation charge. They had ADSL up & running in 5 working days on an
020 number.

ISPs will want her to pay an upfront connection charge if she doesn't
want to stay a full year. If that's not a problem then there is plenty
of choice about.

The Entanet resellers are particularly good.

Metronet - http://www.metronet.co.uk/ - sign-up fee of £47 if you don't
want any cancellation fees. They're part of Plusnet but so far my parents
haven't had any problems.

Personally I also use Demon so they wouldn't be suitable.

Why don't you help her out? You must have Internet access and a quick
search takes hardly any time. How else will you check information you are
given. Learn to research, make some effort.

Many thanks to everyone for their swift and (except in the case of Brian)
very helpful advice.

Namesco have a monthly contract, but the connection fee is reclamed back at
a % for every month remaining under 12 months.

Although I've not used them, Steve, from Ace Internet, posted here some
months back that they have no activation fee, and three month minimum.

Many others will do 1 month contracts, but they'll nearly all have the
one-off activation fee to pay. Worth getting an ADSL modem/router too
of course, rather than the nasty free/cheap USB modems some ISPs 'give'
(but charge delivery fee for) - certainly better to use a router IMO.

These both appear to offer free activation and 3/6 month minimum term.
Check the T&C's for any hidden catches such as termination fees etc as
I haven't.
