it every time I put it into bag.

The part that 'pops out' is the antenna, you need it to send and receive!?

Most are of a similar form factor for the ones without a whip type antenna,
just a blob on the end.

If you dont like that, its better than a USB dongle type wifi card. Maybe
you should consider a lappy with built in wifi. Most if not all Intel mobos
will come with 802.11 and AMD I would presume also.

http://www.openlabs.com/neko64.php

Check out this rig, its a portable with DUAL 64bit Opterons 5 PCI slots, 8GB
ram, CDRW all built in.

WIth you you can play the russian national anthem AND run Linux! Snag is,
you need the entire row of table trays on a flight to use it Oh and its
got a built in 350 watt PSU

This laptop has more power than my floor rig!

Thanks

It's just that I've different types of wifi cards (compact flash) which are
a lot shorter. Coudn't this antena hide into a slot ?

If I disconnect it every day the socket could break down after some time

regards
Wojtek

It's got to stick out, or it won't work.
I too would like a card with a short thin cable that can be clipped to
the side of the laptop, and go to a pair of rabbit ears on the display,
or something.

But it won't work with the laptop on its edge, and can be knocked off.
A step in the right direction, but not all the way there.

If the xjack is the one with a thin "skeleton" socket the same thickness as
the card that pops out so the plug can be inserted vertically through it,
then I've had a 3com card with one of these for years. They're great at
first but eventually the electrical connection becomes intermittent and you
keep losing the network connection, unless you twiddle the plug till it's
just right and then don't breathe till you've finished transferring your
files. Better to get the ones with a small plug and a short length of
flexible cable.

Rod.

I don't kinow what plug you mean(but maybe my English isn't well enough).
It's one socket thin card. Check the link :
http://www.3com.com/prod/pl_PL_EMEA/...&sku=3CRPAG175

I will have it on Monday so we'll see. As far as you have to pop the xjack
out when using and by hiding it you switch off the card. The thing that
bothers me the most is that you probably can't use an external anntena.

cheers
Wojtek
