Windows machines do not need to be in the same Workgroup to share files
and printers. Workgroups are just a cosmetic/organizational tool. In
order to use Workgroup resources from a domain computer:

Information from MVP Lanwench:
You don't need to change to a workgroup just to access resources on it.
You shouldn't play with your laptop's network settings at all. Once
you've logged in using your domain account (using cached credentials),
and have an IP address on the home network, you can map drives, use
printers, whatnot, very easily - one way, in a command line:

net use x: \\computername\sharename /user:computername\username <enter>

We have the typical Comcast network set up w/ wireless hub. A friend wants
to be able to print from laptop using printer connected to desktop in house.
I saw in other posts that all devices using the shared printer MUST be part
of the same workgroup as desktop with printer on it. My friend says that
given this, they can't use the printer because their work laptop is part of
their work domain, and they cannot change settings to be in the home
workgroup. I think that's wrong, because if he can access the Web at home
on this laptop (using the auto-recognized wireless hub at home), then it
seems to me he should be able to use the shared printer as well.

Is this possible, and if so, how do we set it up?

Laptop = XP Pro
Desktop = XP Pro

Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.
