Sharing Internet across wireless access point

Hi, I have a Win98SE pc at home and have just bought a IBM Thinkpad
laptop with Win2k.

I have an adsl connection that connects to my pc via a USB cable not
with a network cable.

I want to install a wireless access point to be able to roam with my
laptop at home.

Is it possible to plug a access point into a NIC on the Win98 PC and
use Internet Sharing to allow the laptop (with a wireless card) to
access the internet?

Can the access point connect straight to the NIC or must it go via a
swtich/hub?

Unfortunately, I have to stick with USB router, but money isnt much of
an issue. Does anyone have any solutions?

Getting the fastest possible internet connection for both machines is
the main goal.

certainly if you do it via a hub.

it will probably need a crossover cable to connect to the NIC. My only
doubt is about crossover connections per se as I had a bad experience
once.

something like the Lnksys WET11 is intended to be a wired to wireless
