The only way to be sure the software firewall is disabled is to
uninstall it. If you are running Zone Alarm you will still have it's
settings after an uninstall so the TCP/IP stack would have to be rebuilt
after uninstalling that beast. If you are using Symantec for anything I
strongly urge you to find something else, anything else to do the job as
they waste CPU cycles & several pieces of there software are know to
cause serious problems with both Windows & Microsoft Office. The
"officeav.dll" file is known to cause serious problems in word & most
likely in the other programs in the office suite. I have some examples
of it causing problems in the following link.
http://www.support.microsoft.com/sea...2&ast=3&mode=a
As for causing problems with windows here is one example once again from
Microsoft so I think you should be able to trust it. They do cause
other problems this is just the first one that came to my head. Here is
the link to the article that tells you who is to blame in the cause
section of the article.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;313458
Here is the article that just shows you how to fix the issue caused by
Symantec.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281967/
So please get rid of the beast. I personally use AVG for my antivirus
software. You can get it over at
http://www.grisoft.com or
http://free.grisoft.com I'd try the second link first that way you can
try a fully functional version & if you want you can purchase the other
version if the free one doesn't fit your needs or if your computers
don't qualify for the free version. The free trial software I hope
works just as good. In my experience most trial software from antivirus
vendors will only detect a virus & not remove it.

If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.
If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on
http://www.google.com/ http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= or
http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.
If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html (The site I've linked
to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)
