My situation is this:
I have a Windows 2000 Server which is part of a Domain.
I need workstations in the same network but that are not part of the domain
to be able to access shared folders in that server.
I don't want to join those workstations to the domain because it slows them
down.
They slow down because they are connected through a VPN, which has a 192K
connection speed.
Short of joining the worksations to the domian how can I access these server
files?
Everytime I wnat to access the server using it's name or IP, I am asked for
a username and password. After entering them, it does let me access it. I
don't want to keep entering them every time I restart my workstations.
Please Help!

you can create an account that has the same password as the local
accounts on those workstations
you will not get a prompt anymore as long as the passwords are in sync

you can create a network drive where in you save the password of a
domain account with the right permissions
I used to do that back in the days of windows 2000 but I don't know the
exact procedure anymore
there is however a pretty straight forward KB document about it AFAIK

you can add the guest account to that perticular share and absolutely
anyone can access it from anywhere

grtz

Greetings,

An easy way to make this work is to ensure that the exact user name and
passwords used on the workstations are also used on the server. For instance
if you have a user logging into a workstation under jsmith and the password
abc123 then ensure you have an Active Directory account with the same
credentials, jsmith \ abc123. Then ensure that the account has rights to the
share.

The next thing to consider is to create a batch script and add it to the
workstation's startup to ensure the drive letter is mapped correctly. You
can even use this script to map a drive with a domain credentials without
having to go through everything I mentioned above:

net use X: \\Server\Share /User:domain\Username password /savecred
/persistent:yes

Hope this helps

If the clients are running XP you should be able to use this feature:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true
