is there such a thing as a storage device that could be directly attached to
two or more servers ? i mean without a network between them and at u320 scsi
coomparable speed. i heard of a tpe of device such as a network storage array
(not a san nor sna) or sorts which would allow me to do just that: have a
storage device shared between two or more servers (a file-server, only with
direct acces, not over a network protocol, sort of like iSCSI, but faster and
not encapsulated into a network protocol).

You might want to look into MS Cluster Service.
Maybe this is what you look for.
