I have a scenario where notebook computers (Windows XP SP2) are taken outside
of the office and then connected together using an adhoc wireless network.
When I attempt to access a locally shared (full permissions and security have
been granted to "Everyone") folder or printer when the dc is unavailable,
Windows prompts me to authenticate before I can access the resource (which is
not the case when I'm connected to the domain in the office - when on the
domain I can access the resource seamlessly). However, attempts to
authenticate with the same username return a message that says the domain is
unavailable to process the request. I have been able to workaround this by
creating a local user account on the PC that is sharing the printeror
resource and authenticating using that account . Is there anyway to access
shared resources when I am disconnected from the domain without having to
setup local user accounts? Security of the actual resource is not important
- anyone who can connect to the computer should be granted access.

thanks,
Martin

Assign permission for the Local Everyone too. Everyone is not really
"everyone",...there is a Domain Everyone and a Local Everyone.

That doesn't work. The PC of the machine accessing the resource is still
trying to authenticate the user using the domain controller (which isn't
available). If I logon to the local machine (instead of the domain) it
works, but I don't want to do that as there is otherwise no reason to logon
to the local machine.
