I have a windows 98 desktop and a Windows ME notebook computer. I use
DSL for internet connection on the desktop computer. I get DCC
connected between the two computers perfectly.

I want now to share Internet connection on the notebook computer via
direct cable connection. Can anyone explain me, a computer dummy, how
to do that or which software provides simplest way to do that?

Windows 98 Second Edition has an Internet Connection Sharing
capability that will work over an Ethernet connection between two
computers, but not over a DCC (serial or parallel Direct Cable
Connection) connection.

This web page has information on sharing the Internet over a DCC
connection:

Rather than the complications of DCC, purchase a router. That way, all of
your computers can be entirely independent of one another and no computer
has to be up and running before another computer can access the internet. A
router setup is also much simpler to install than one using DCC.

If you decide to get a router, do yourself a big favor and get one that
includes a printer server. This will allow all of your computers to have
totally independent printer access, in that there will be no such thing as a
"host computer".

For details, go to www.practicallynetworked.com.
