How to share connection without sharing files

I have a home network with a Dell Router on the host and a Dell adapter
on the client. My next-door neighbor and I decided to share expenses on
the cable connection, so he got an adapter for his MacIntosh, and
receives my signal without any trouble. But every time he connects I
lose file-sharing; I get a message that I may have to ask permission;
after he disconnects I have to remove the ethernet from the router for a
few seconds to restore filesharing. I have a McAfee firewall, and am
using the WEP encrypton. Any ideas?

I should have mentioned that my neighbor can't see any of my shared
files, but I can't see them when he connects.
