Shard DSL Connection no working

Help!!

I'm doing my nut in. I have a DSL USB Modem on my computer, and a direct
network link to my Son's computer. The LAN connection is working fine, both
can see and share each others shared folders.

However, my shared internet connection just refuses to work on my Son's PC.
It was working just fine last week, but I had to re-install my computer. Now
it won't work and is doing my nut in. The setting are all the same as
before. His PC is about to go on a journey through the window ;-)

Both PCs are running XP Pro SP2, mine has the connection shared, as it was
before.

If anyone could please point out the blindingly obvious, I would be very
grateful.

Cheers,

Pete.

ther blindingly obvious thing is that you haven't provided any useful
information about IP addresses, default gateways, firewalls etc that
might give someone a clue.

OK.

Host computer:

IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Client computer:

IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Workgroup: MSHOME

Protocol: TCI/IP

Both using onboard 100 LAN cards, directly connected with the correct cable.

Both using XP Pro SP2. LAN is working fine, both can see each other's
shares. Host computer is connected to the internet via a USB DSL MODEM. This
is a shared connection, and the client can see it. The client just refuses
to use it as the internet connection.

LAN settings in IE on client is set to Automatically Detect Settings.

I have tried with the firewall on both computers enabled, disabled, enabled
on 1 disabled on the other, etc... Norton AV 2005 has been both enabled and
disabled.

This was working fine before I reinstalled my system. Since my original post
I have reinstalled my Son's system, and we are both at the same state, apart
from Windows update, which my Son's system obviously can't get.

Basically, everything is exactly the same as before the reinstall, and it
has got me completely flumoxed.

Thanks,

Pete.

Well, I just removed the drivers for his NIC, reinstalled them. Enetered my
IP for his default gateway and DNS (as before) and this time it worked.

Oh well!!

Thanks for reading.

Pete.
