How to setup a wireless Access point?

Hi all

My existing Wireless router died on me so I used an old wired one. Its a
DLink Wired, Cable/DSL Router. Now, my main PC's work fine and the DHCP on
the router is connected to the NTL Cable model without problem.

But, I have a new challenge.

We have a Nintendo Wii that has an internal wireless card. I want to
connect this to my lan so I can use its online services. What I don't want
to do is buy another wireless router just yet but I have managed to find an
old Wireless ADSL 4 port router by Linksys in my loft.

So...

My question is this.

Can I connect the Wireless ADSL Router into the Wired DLink router (using
CAT5) and use the Wireless ADSL router as a Wireless Access Point only (for
the Wii) with all my other PC's currently connect to the Dlink router.

Any help in setting this up is much appreciated.

Anim

(Assuming you're using 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 for your LAN)
Disable DHCP on everything.
Set the DLink LAN address to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0
Set the PC IP addresses in the range 192.168.0.2-99/255.255.255.0
Set the Linksys LAN address to 192.168.0.100/255.255.255.0
Set the Wii address to 192.168.0.101/255.255.255.0
Set all PCs and the Wii to use 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 as their
gateway.
Connect the two routers with a patch cable between two LAN ports - you
may need a crossover cable to do this, but probably not.

Set up the Wii and the Linksys wireless LAN as detailed in the manuals.

A little fiddling about and did something similar to what you suggested but
kept my existing lan settings and set the wireless router up to match my
local Ip range. Disabled DHCP on the wireless router but left it on with
the wired dlink Router.

Worked a treat and the Wii patched itself too which I now have to found out
what the patch did

Cheers

I thought it was easier to write a recipe for full manual config than
delve into the vagaries of DHCP. :-)
