Hello,
How do I setup w2k3 server standard for vpn access behind
a 3com office connect secure gateway? The gateway is the
dhcp server as well. I would like to be able to see my
server and internal network machines! I plan on using
pptp. I can now tunnel into the gateway but I cannot see
anything beyond that unless I setup a \\server\folder\file
connection. Any help is appreciated!!!

That is what I would expect to happen. VPN just gives you an IP
connection. Making a VPN connection to the RRAS server rather than the
router would give you the same result. Making a VPN connection to a DC
(especially if it is the first/only DC in a network) is not a good idea. I
would recommend you stay with the current setup.

What do you mean by "see" ? If you mean the computer browser service,
it is unlikely that you will be able to use that from a remote unless the
LAN is running WINS. The client would need to know how to find the Domain
Master Browser by its Netbios special name <domainname 1B> .

>Thanks for your help Bill!!! What I was referring to was

mapping a network drive would be the only way I
could "see" into the server. What we're trying to do is
allow 2-5 users to be able to tunnel into the server and
work with specific files/programs on the server. Can we
do that without mapping drives?

I would think that was the best way to go. Have some sort of batch file
or script on the client to map the resources they need.
