hi..
i'm new to linux. i've set up a home network w/ linksys router connected
to 4 computers, all using windows but 1. i experimented with this
computer in install linux (debian) in it. it detects the network card
(nVIDIA MCP) and install the correct module (forcedeth). however, i
couldn't connect to internet (and the router's connection is refused).
i've tried to use deb-package etherconf to set the network up without
much success. i've tried to use manual ifconfig too. as i'm a new user,
i'm not very sure of what argument to pass to ifconfig. ifconfig eth0
192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 does establish connection but my box
is still unable to connect to internet (or to the router).

any help will be much appreciated.. thanx..

spec: linksys router BEFSR41W
nVIDIA nFORCE2 MCP (integrated LAN card)
Debian Sarge Linux

The linksys box is undoutedly set to 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side and
is acting as a DHCP server to the windows boxes.
You can only go static with a different IP address in the 192.168.1.x
range, and you need a default route of 192.168.1.1 set.
Or set it up as a DHCP client box.
