Hi,

A company where I work with plan to have a server setup to provide
networking include internet access to three appartments (will be
contracuted) over a 30 hectares of land. The distance between one appartment
to other is aboubt 2-3 kilometer. Each appartment will have at least 50
rooms.

What is the best network setup for this kind of situation (I plan to put at
least one 36 ports switch and use fiber optics to connect those switches to
the office building where the server reside)

I would appreciate for any advice by the NG.

SF

Hi,

We basically have the same network topology than you plan to have, 2
buildings 2 km from one another connected switch-to-switch by a fiber optic
link, all on the same IP subnet. It works very well.

The only advice I can give you is, if possible, use multiple fibers between
the buildings so you can use the "trunking" feature of the switches to
aggregate the 1 GB/s links in a big fat pipe, and do the same between the
server and the main office switch.

I had good results with Foundry Networks switches, and they are less
expansive than Cisco.
