I am new to Windows Server 2003. I have just purchased it 2 weeks ago. I
installed a DC name SKCONNECT3. Connected Fine although it went wrong here...

When i logon, I want it to read the Group Policy on the Org. Unit that I
have setup ... but it doesn't. Is this anything that i need set to make this
happen? The idea is to be able to prohibit certain tasks, redirect folders
and set the default theme, stopping the user changing it.

I only have a Linksys BEFW11S4 at the moment, with the DHCP on that router.
(I'm making sure I can definately get the server to work for me! The BEFW11S4
is just something from home which i just wanted to test the server!) Is this
the problem? or is it the configuration? I do not have DHCP on the server,
all I have is the DNS Service, File Server, Print Server, Domain Controller
and IIS for an intranet I have setup. Is anything wrong?

I have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Evaluation at the moment. I have a
Genuine Standard CD, which is failing to read (It's got a crack in it).
Hopefully MS will replace this I hope.

Thanks
Mr. IT

Check the group policy result using gpresult.exe. or check this web page for more details.

Top 5 Checklists of Group Policy Troubleshooting
1. Which GPO applies to your client?
2. Have you refreshed the Group Policy settings?
3. Do you have correct DNS settings?
4. Have you checked the health of the GPO on domain controllers?
5. Can users access the sysvol share on the domain controller?

I take it that this means you want the settings you created in this GPO to
apply to the DC or the user logging onto it. In order for this to happen
either the server object or the user account must reside in the new OU. By
default a DC resides in the Domain Controllers OU.

Not sure about the significance of the router and DHCP. A DC should have a
static IP address and point only to itself for DNS.
