how to setup dial-on-demand

Hi,

I searched but I could not find satisfactory tutorials/papers on this
issue.

Could any one tell me how to setup a dial-on-demand infrastructure STEP
BY STEP?

What I wish to do is to open a dial-up connection to my ISP and end it
after several minutes, the value of which is determined by me.

Use the pppd demand and idle options, see man pppd. Otherwise it's
the same "infrastructure" as for a non-demand pppd connection script.
