Setup of branch office server

I am going to be setting up a W2K3 server in a branch office. They will be
connected via a point to point T1 and 2 Cisco routers.

How should I configure the network of the branch office server? I have 2 W2K
servers at the main office that are using AD and all is well.

The main office will be in the 192.168.0.X and the branch office will be a
seperate network on 192.168.3.X.

What would be recommendations for the branch office server? What should the
branch server be configured with? Would the domain of the server be the same
as the main office or would it be a NameIgive.Currentdomain.org type name?

How would authentication and AD be handled? I would like the users to use
the same account that they now use at the main office.

Sorry for the basic questions but this is my first branch office and I want
it to go right. I will be having a Cisco specialist setting up the routers
between the two locations and I want to have the server and network setup
properly for him at the branch office to work with. If I am missing anything
PLEASE let me know.

Thanks in advance for any answers, advice,or tips!

Keep it all part of the same domain.

You'll want to put another DC in the branch office, configured in a separate
AD site&subnet.

Cool....

AD & DNS, and file/print if you want that too.

It would be the same domain.

Sure - they'll be the same ones. However, your group policy/folder
redirection stuff may need to be a little tweaked if they're all pointing at
the servers in the main office.

How did it go with your SBS/VOIP thing?

Everything ended up OK ! I installed a Cisco ASA 5505 and now the network is
Private!I set a static route to the outside and all is well! One thing, SBS
needs to be reconfigured since someone thought that they were helping me by
entering info that they had no idea of! DNS is REALLY screwed up! But that is
for another day

Everything is working...but I need to reconfigure the server properly.

Thank you for your help and advice!

Have a GREAT night!

Glad to hear it went well. You should definitely post in the SBS group for
help with your limping install - you'll get a lot of help in there.

Did the branch office stuff make sense to you?

I suggest you consider using a news client, such as Forte Agent,
Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express, rather than the pretty clunky web
interface to the newsgroups. I's a lot easier to do nearly everything that
way. You can mark messages to be watched, filter the views so you can see
replies to your posts easily, and search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

Thanks Lanwench! I'm going to look into the SBS newsgroup also. I'll upgrade
the method I use. I used to be a NG junkie.....and may well still be!

Have a good one and thanks!
