I just installed the MN700 using my desktop as the base
via ethernet connection. My Compaq 2575 (XP Pro) is
wireless equiped and recognized the MN700 almost
immediately. The network icons register "Excellent"
signal strength at 48 - 54Mbs. When I launch MSIE it
cannot find the internet and the icons tell me that I am
not connected to the internet. . . But the base station
works fine. When I used an ethernet connection via an SMC
router the Compaq found everything immediately. Do I have
to configure something in the wireless laptop to recognize
the internet? Any suggestions? ? ? Y'all have a great
Fourth

Can you ping the router? Run command prompt and enter
192.168.2.1 Can you reach the router? Open IE and enter
192.168.2.1 If this works, there is a misconfiguration in
the router WAN page.

Otherwise, it's a problem in the wireless connection. Check
the properties for the Internet connection. TCP/IP should
be set to obtain an IP from the "server" or to a
192.168.2.x address (notice the 2 -- other vendors are
using 0 or 1) -- the 2 in gateway and DNS should be changed
if an IP is used.

Under IE/Tools/Options check the connection settings. It
should be set to use a LAN always or when available.

You may also have to change the WEP security key to match
the MN700 key, including key type and length.

Finally, make sure that on the wireless connection settings
you didn't add the SMC SSID to the list of preferred
networks -- you should add the MN700 SSID to the list (and
probably also change the router SSID from the default MSHOME)
