I have a difficult networking problem and need suggestions. The goal is
to network 1 WinMe and 2 Win98 clients using a wireless router to a
single high speed internet connection.
The details are as follows.
===================
WinME machine:
Direcway satellite with USB connection. This is up and running
standalone on the WinME box.
10/100 pci network card attached to Belkin wireless Cable/DSL Gateway
Router is MODEL F5D7230-4 Version 1010.
====================
Win98:
Wireless networking cards.
====================
I'm having trouble getting this to work:
1. the Realtek rtl8139 card is plug and playing as 2(!) 8139 network
cards on WinME. This looks like a plug and play bug. Both devices appear
to be working as far as Device Manager reports. Don't know in actuality
if the network card is working. I've tried repeatedly to fix this by
removing the device and plug and playing again, doesn't work.
2. once the network card is properly installed in WinME, how does its
cable plug into the wireless router? Use the WAN port on the router?
Null modem cable?
3. Can this wireless router be used directly for peer-to-peer networking
with nothing plugged into the WAN port?
