Looking for help setting up a small network, 4 PC's max.
1 running XP home (main PC) others running XP pro (laptop + 2others)

I will be buying a router, that is my first quesion can anyone recommend a
good priced router that works with NTL?

Secondly, how wil the configeration work?
I have installed a second NIC into the main PC and tried to set up a
network uisng a switch, not too bothered about the internet at mo, but it
didn't work and screwed up my internet connection on the main PC.

Has anyone got some help that they can give me?
Not to happy with using XP's wizards......

Hope to hear soon

Thanks for the help Graham. I have now managed to set up 2 PC's each can see
each other, but.....................the problem I now have is that only 1
(main PC) can use the internet, the other pc (laptop) internet does not work
(

I have enabled internet sharing on the main PC but for the laptop there is
no settings to adjust, for some reasons its saying that the connection is a
bridge!!! Is that right???

Any help much appreciated.

Thanx

the laptop should be set to get its IP address allocated by DHCP from
the ICS machine, the latter defaults to 192.168.0.1

the default gateway and DNS server settings of the laptop should end
up being 192.168.0.1 and the IP address of the laptop 192.168.0.x
where x is likely to be 2

the ICS wizard should create a floppy to stick in the "client"
machines, it does the above for you.

No bridges required for a laptop to share an internet connection on
another machine on the same network
