I am trying to get internet connection using RRAS but everytime I try to
setup NAT I get error messages stating PPP link is not available or some

I have tried every conceivable way I must be missing something. I have my
environment setup as follows

Did you choose the PPP adapter called "Remote Router" for the external
interface when you setup NAT?

Honestly, I would use the Dlink router connected to the DSL modem, then
connect that to the W2003 box, then to the internal network. The PPP
adapter, more specifically, the PPPoE services causes the MTU to drop to
1492 to support ADSL. That can cause IE web browsing issues.

DSLModem -> Dlink ->W2003NAT -> internal

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,
watched threads or subject.

It's easy:

Thanks, Ace.

That is my problem when I go to choose a interface I see the Remote Router
and I place all my dsl credentials but it gives me some PPP link error when I
try to connect get DSL, only if I setup PPPoE in the network connections area
do I get internet access and only for the W2003 box.

I am trying to get the W2003 to work as the router so I then can setup VPN,
the Dlink only allows one VPN connection at a time.

Hmm, I see what you're trying to do. Tell you what, PPPoE is kind of hokey
on a Windows 2003 box. I've had trouble before with it as well and would
rather not use it on a server. Too much overhead and it lowers the MTU.

But, to create it, since it's a "dialup" interface, so to speak, you'll
first need to create a demand dial connection using the PPPoE interface in
RAS first, then use that as the interface for NAT.

But see if these help:

HOW TO: Create a PPPoE Connection in Windows Server 2003:
http://web.archive.org/web/200306262...b;en-us;317496

PPPOE and Windows NAT issues:
http://www.chicagotech.net/Q&A/vpn4.htm

On the otherhand, but not recomended, but one other suggestion is to just
use the Dlink as the edge DSL router, and just plug that into the switch so
all workstations and server uses that as the gateway. For VPN traffic, allow
this type of traffic from the Dlink to the server so you can still use the
server as a VPN server:

For PPTP:
1723 GRE (TCP)
Protocol ID 47

For L2TP/IPSec:
TCP 1701
UDP 500
Protocol ID 50
Protocol ID 51

This way the server is the VPN box and will allow up to 256 connections if
you configure it that way.
