Hi, First off, please be warned I'm a bit of a newbie but... I have a
linux beox set up with debian and it's currently handed out an IP by my
Linksys router. However I'm planning to take the box off the network
and link it to my primary workstation using a crossover cable. To do
this I'm guessing I need to give the box a fixed IP so that once
connected directly to my PC I'll still be able to address it...

Any ideas?

Edit /etc/network/interfaces.
man 5 interfaces

Ok, I amended my interfaces file to specify 'static' and gave the box a
fixed IP etc. This worked fine when the box was still on the 'network'
but now that I have plugged it directly into the back of my PC with the
crossover cable it's no longer addressable. Do I need to make any
changes to the network card settings on my PC? Would I be right in
thinking that my PC network card would need the same IP?

:?

TIA!
