Setting up isa 2004 server with windows 2000 network

I am trying to set up ISA server 2004 for my windows 2000 test network on a
new pc, to act as a proxy internet server. We installed windows 2000 server
on the new pc and called it isaserver. As we couldn't find detailed
instructions that started with configuring the OS we followed instructions
for ISA 2000
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...sg.mspxwhich,(
which we assumed would be the same up until the ISA setup). It wasn't clear
whether the new machine needed to be part of the domain or not, so we
started to set up the new pc before making it part of the domain.

From our understanding, the instructions have told me to leave 'server1' (my
main server) as the dns server and use the new pc ('isaserver') as the dhcp
server and as a caching dns server.
We have tried to follow the instructions to implement this and to configure
the new machine.

We did get to the stage of being able to test our setup by typing in the
proxy server details in a client pc, but before managing to setup a GPO to
set those proxy settings it all stopped working!

We have been unable to get it working since. Can someone please clarify
these points about the instructions?

Step 2 - configuring the dns server in windows 2000 point 14 says:

" In the New Host dialog box, enter the computer name of DNS server on the
internal network that is authoritative for your Active Directory domain in
the Name (uses parent domain name if blank) text box. "

Question: Should the NAME be that of server1 or the new isaserver?

Step 2 - configuring the dns server in windows 2000 point 14 goes onto say

"Enter the IP address of the DNS server on the internal network in the IP
address text box."

Question: Should this be the ip address of server 1 or isaserver?

Essentially when the DNS server is mentioned, should this be server1 or
isaserver?

Basically, in terms of setting up the dns, what settings should we be
applying on server1 and what should be set up on isaserver?

Many thanks for any help given.

I would check out www.isaserver.org for great info on how to setup/install
isa2004. You can't use instructions from isa2000 - the products are very
different.

I could be wrong, but I don't think ISA2004 will run on Windows2000

To clarify:
ISA 2004 Standard Edition runs on Windows 2000 & 2003
ISA 2004 Enterprise Edition runs on Windows 2003 only.
