Setting up INN server

I have been trying to setup a news server. Lot of people have said not
to use INN since it is a beast to configure. Although I am interested
only in few groups, I think that INN is a better installation choice.
The main reason being that it has a wider user base. Lot of people have
recommended that I use other medium to small NNTP servers (which have
very little user base to reflect on issues).

Is there any very simple, easy to setup INN guide?

Thank you in advance.

PS - At the most, I may be using only 20 news groups.

Ditto here! I know the OP said he did not want to use one of the other
lightweight news servers but maybe he should reconsider.

It's not that - he CAN'T use inn since he doesn't have a feed. He
DOESN'T WANT to use inn since he doesn't want to run his own groups.
Leafnode is exactly what he wants. It's a pulling server. I don't know
why he thinks he should use inn for what he wants.

He MUST reconsider, because what he has selected does not do the job he
wants it to do.

INN is quite usable with some addons.
Personally I use INN + suck. Suck is needed because INN isn't build to fetch
(pull) articles from a remote server. And yes, it's true that INN can be
quite a hasle to setup, but consider the flexibility INN gives you... (and
there's nothing a good guide can't do). I choosed INN in favour of Leafnode
because of some limitations in Leafnode (I can't remember them right now,
though).

I will give you some links to get you started:

INN:

Suck:

Guides and cookbooks for INN:
http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Elena....unix/inn.shtml
(INN Implementation Guide contains quite a lot of examples to get you
started)

INN+suck howto:
http://www.arved.de/bsd/inn/

INN 2.x FAQ:
http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/faqs/inn.html

Suck/Inn FAQ:

If you want something instead of suck some recommend Newsx.

Newsx:

This should be enough to get you started with INN.
Good luck!

newsx is better than suck when you try to poll lots of ng at the same time.
