I am installing Debian Sarge and having trouble getting it to recognise my
siemens 4200 router. I run suse on another disk and it works fine. I also
run XPpro. Again no problem. During installation sarge tried and said it
found a network but could not configure it. I tried to do in manually during
installation and post install but keep getting the error "
Sorry, I scanned 1 interface, but the Access

Concentrator of your provider did not respond. Please

check your network and modem cables. Another reason

for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe

process which controls the modem.

Now I know everyting is fine 'cause when I boot back into XP everyting works
fine. I can't even access the setup window via my web browser in sarge. I
get an error saying I am not permitted to. I have tried accessing as root as
well.

I would dearly love to make sarge my choosen OS 'cause it's quick, sharp,
and simple with (I have read) great support in APT . Suse 10.1 is slow
clunky and no support through yast unless you register and pay.

Would love anybodies help as I have spent several days trying to find
information about my particular problem on the net with no success. I have
reinstalled from my 14 (yes 14) cd pack 4 times thinking it must be a hicup
at installation to no avail. What annoys me is that suse installed
beautifully and setup everything (except my printer canon BJC-265SP)
perfectly so it's not an equipment failure.

Thanks a NEW linux fan Al.

The chances are that your ethernet adaptor hasn't been set up. What
happens when you type:

ifconfig -a

as root?
