Setting metric for an NIC

Hi Experts:

On my Windows XP, I tried to the metric for one of the network cards through
the TCP/IP settings, say set it to 10, it seems took effect as shown by the
output of "route print"; but after a short while, it goes back to its
original automatically configured metric of 20 as shown in "route print".

Why is this, is the manual setting supposed to be perminent?
