how to set up TKIP

What is the requirement of using TKIP for WPA, does the router/access
point have to support it? In my router's setting I see a "802.1x" mode,
is that different from TKIP?

802.x authentication is automatically selected by both the router and Windows
when you use WPA TKIP.
