Hello,
we have just changed our small network to a server running Windows 2003
server and all clients running Windows XP professional. Now recently
we have a lot of problems that the clients hang when they try to open
documents (most obvious with Word documents) from a share on the
server.
One out of three times the session simply hangs. In session management
we can see the temporary session under the client computer name with a
$ appendix (e.g MACHINE$) and no open files. The client will hang until
this session is manually closed on the server.
Any ideas what we may be doing wrong here?
Short overview of the network:
- Server: Windows 2003 server running as domain server managing all
(roaming) profiles, AMD Athlon64, 1GBit network interface to switch, 2
onboard raid controllers with two 160GB drives each both set up as RAID
0 for a total of 2 drives with 320GB space each.
- Clients: All running Windows XP, various CPUs and configurations,
some connected directly to 1GB switch some to a 100MB switch which is
connected to the 1GB switch.
Thanks in advance for any help!
-Bernd
