I have three machines, 2 Server 2003 and 1 windows 2000.
I had to reinstall networking (tcp/ip) and "client for
microsoft windows network" on the win2k machine and now I
have very poor network performance between the win2k and
2003 machines. The server 2003 machines have no problems
between themselves. All three have 100 mb nic's and
before reinstall of networking on the win2k machine
everything was fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,
First off make sure the W2K system has all the Critical Updates on it.
There was a known issue resolved by a particular CritUpdate that would
cause some slow like symptoms. Specific CritUpdate
329170 MS02-070: Flaw in SMB Signing May Permit Group Policy to Be Modified
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329170

Also, could you tell us a bit more on what you are doing when you
experience the slowness. I'm guessing you are transfering files between the
systems but I just want to make sure. If you are transferring files could
you tell me if the problem occurs if you copy the file from W2K3 to W2K or
only in one direction? Just a bit more detial would be tremendous help.

Oh ya, please make sure check your system event logs for any error messages
related RDR or MRXSMB and post them back to this thread.

Thank you,

>Alan,

It happens in both directions but it is far worse
transferring files from server 2003 to win2k. IE I am
mapping drives between the machines and then drag and drop
files to the mapped drive. It takes about 30 to 45
minutes to transfer an 81 meg file from 2003 to win2k and
about 2.5 minutes from win2k to server2003. I did check
the event logs but I dont see anything out of the
ordinary. I have all critical updates on the win2k
machine.

Thanks for your help.

I also tried transferring the file via http by putting it
on the server2003 and then from the win2k machine doing
a "save target as" on a html link. Doing this resulted in
about a 45 minute transfer of the 81 meg zip file.
